Blast off! Its party time! We all live in a facsist nation!
Because, we are the United States of America. It's much shorter to call ourselves Americans than United States Americans or U.S. Americans, or whatever.

Plus, other people call us Americans as well. It's not just us who call ourselves Americans. Yes, you guys are Americans as well, but the majority of the world knows who people are referring to when they call themselves Americans. We don't have a specific name for ourselves like Venezuelan's or Canadians, or Brazilians, etc. So I think it was easier for our ancestors, who first started calling us Americans, to refer to themselves as Americans since everyone else can say: "Me? I'm Brazilian." or "I'm canadian." *shrug* If someone like me travels and says: "I'm Washingtonian." People go: "What? Where's that?"

"Washington, U.S.A."

"Oh, you live in the capital of the United States?"

"No...the state."

"Oh, well why don't you just call yourself an American? Jeez."

Or we'd get similar reactions.

We're not saying that we are the sole Americans. It's just the only thing we can refer to ourselves as without the rest of the world going: "What the heck?!"

Well... first of all: thanks for answering me, anyone could have though this is just a silly boy with a silly doubt.

I guess you are right... the world calls you Americans and that's it.
Me against the world is not a fair struggle. Even tho' i think we need to unite.
We are all americans...

Well... peace.

You're right. I'm Canadian. And American. But I do not have U.S. citizenship either...
I'm a U.S. Citizen and American...but I don't have a Canadian citizenship. It's the same point. We aren't of the same Country. We're on the same large continent, but we aren't of the same country.

That's why we don't call it an "American Citizenship". That's why it's called a "U.S. Citizenship."

But it's what the rest of the world knows the U.S. citizens by as well. And as I said above, it's the only thing we have to refer to ourselves by. While people like you or in South America can refer to yourselves as Canadian or Brazilian or Mexican, or whatever.

Plus, it's a part of our title: U.S.A. = United States of America.

Point being: No matter what we call ourselves, SOMEONE is going to complain. We can't call ourselves North Americans because then Canada would complain: "Hey! We're North Americans as well!"

And as a friend pointed out, we can't call ourselves the United Statesians because there are other places that are: "United States of country name here." And then we'd get complaints from them as well.

We already call ourselves U.S. Citizens and I'm SURE someone is complaining about that somewhere because what does U.S. stand for? United States. So I'm sure someone somewhere else is already going: "Hey, we're U.S. Citizens as well!"

*shrugs* My main problem with questions like these is: questions like these raise questions of Political Correctness and I'm getting sick and tired of Politically Correct B.S.

Some of the Politically Correct terms I can well understand the reasons for. But a lot of it is just stuff that people want to complain about just to make things difficult.

But what else in this world are we going to call ourselves?

Yeah, it's funny, because just next door to you, Mexico is also a United States. The problem with your name is that, in my understanding, it calls you the only United States on the whole continent of America -- which was true in 1776, but as you can see, not today...looks like you guys never got around to changing the name when Haiti got its independence in 1884, and everyone else afterwards. Looking at it that way, it's no big deal, I guess...it's been that way so long...
